After a short 1 day off break, the Reds flew cross country from Washington DC to face the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night.  The Diamondbacks were riding a 3 game win streak and the Reds trying to get their first winning streak of the year.

The Diamondbacks started Brendan Parisi and the Reds, Owen Mongeon…both veteran players who knew their way around a pitchers mound.  Brendan did not disappoint throwing lots of strikes.  After a single by Leadoff man, Antman Manalakos and a hard earned BB by Liam, Owen Mongeon struck first with a double to right center field plating Anthony.  Liam would score later when Nate Duerden took one for the team with a HBP.  Brendan then settled in to put up 3 K’s looking to end the threat.  In the home half of the inning, Owen matched pitch for pitch.  Brendan Parisi helping his own cause lining a single up the middle to center field, scoring Jacob Linton, and took second when the throw went to the plate.  Owen found his groove and posted 2 K’s over the next 3 batter to end the inning.

The Reds then went to work sending 9 batters to the plate in the second with hits by Tony Quinones, Tristan Murgo, and Nate Duerden.  5 runners would score in the top half, Jackson Lee, Colin Duffy, Tony Quinones, Tristan Murgo and Anthony Manolakos.    The Diamondbacks would load the bases with 3 BB’s but Owen was able to diffuse the threat.

Mason Loughlin who took over in the second, pitched a nice third inning with 3 K’s and no runs.  Anthony Manolakos would come in for the 3rd inning and after giving up a hit to Brendan, watched as his defense made two nice plays (a 3U by Liam Lawlor and a 4-3 putout by Nate) to help keep the Diamondbacks to 1 run scored.

The Reds would get another 5 runs in the top of the 4th and Anthony would pitch a perfect bottom of the inning with 3 K’s.  The teams were able to play the top of the 5th before the light started to fade over the desert with Owen hitting an inning ending double over the right fielder.

After a half day of school, a great game played by both sides.  Best wishes for a safe, healthy, enjoyable season by all.  Cheers!
