On a beautiful Saturday afternoon the Red Sox and Giants squared off in a much anticipated inter-league match up.  The teams had been waiting all season to play each other.  The Giants sent Ace Tyrrell to the mound.  Owen Michalowski singled for the Red Sox and got to 3rd with 2 outs, but Ace worked out of the jam to hold the Sox scoreless in the first.  The big man, Evan Romano was on the hill for the Red Sox.  Matt Raffi led off for the Giants with a rope of a single to left center to get things rolling for the Giants.  Next we had some excitement with the Sox turning a double play on nice plays at first by Kunal Chauhan and at short by Owen.  After one we remained scoreless.  A leadoff hit by Evan in the top of the second that he stretched to second got things going for the Sox and they managed to plate 2 runs.  Evan was terrific in the bottom of the second getting a 1-2-3 inning.  The Sox were able to add 2 more runs in the top of the 3rd keyed by back to back singles and aggressive base running by Owen and Kunal.  Evan continued the great pitching and again held the Giants scoreless in the bottom of the 3rd, but not without the help of some alert defense by Connor Alarie.  On a tough ball hit into no mans land between 1st and 2nd, Will McLaren the Red Sox first baseman ranged to his right to grab the grounder but had no chance to get back to 1st in time to make the play himself.  2nd baseman Connor Alarie raced over to cover 1st and Will was able to flip the ball to Connor for the out.  Super heads up baseball guys!   Matt Raffi was in pitching for the Giants and put the Sox down in order to start the 4th.  As expected the Giants came roaring back in the bottom of the 4th with 3 runs to pull within 1 run of the Sox.  Hits by Alexander George, Drew O'Connell, Mark Ishkanian and Cole Camerer powered the Giants inning.  The Sox were able to escape the inning on a great throw from Sox catcher Jake Brodeur cutting down the Giants runner trying to steal second for the 3rd out of the inning.  After 4, Sox 4 and Giants 3.  Kunal and Matt pitched brilliantly in the final 2 innings.  Neither pitcher allowed a run the rest of the way.  In the top of the 6th the Sox looked like they had something going only to be shut down by great defense by the Giants.  After a leadoff single by Kunal, he was on the move on the next pitch.  But Giants catcher Drew O'Connell made a fantastic throw to catch Kunal stealing for the first out of the inning.  Not to be outdone, Mark Ishkanian made a terrific diving grab of Owen's line drive for the second out of the inning and then a nice play on a hard grounder for the third out.  Kunal worked a perfect 6th and the Red Sox were able to hang on for a hard fought 4-3 win.  What a great game by all the boys on both teams.  There was great pitching by both teams, solid hitting, incredible defensive plays and all around good fundamental baseball.  Great job guys!  Special congrats to the Red Sox players for securing the regular season title with a 10 and 1 record and the #1 seed for the playoffs.  Good luck to the Red Sox and the Giants in next week's playoffs.
