The weather finally cooperated and the 2018 SLL season got started with a match up between two American League teams on Dean 1 field.  The Athletics hosting the Angels.  The Angels started southpaw Connor Mudd with his battery-mate Mark Ishkanian.  The A's started Colby Coghlin and his battery-mate Colin Yeaton.

1st Inning:  The Angels were very aggressive at the plate.  Coghlin met the challenge by throwing strikes.  There were some good battles at the plate.  Coghlin didn't surrender any hits/runs.  The A's were also aggressive at the plate.  A's scored 4 runs highlighted by double by Coghlin and single by Andrew Schmit.  A's 4 - Angels 0.

2nd Inning:  The Angels batters were patient at the plate.  Angels started with walks by Joey Guidotti, Andrew Miao and Thomas Dowling.  Coghlin battled hard and got the final two outs without giving up any runs.  The A's inning was highlighted by a double by Shawn Salt and Coghlin's home run to left-center.  Mudd fought back to retire the A's.  A's 7 - Angels 0.

3rd Inning:  The Angels were patient again at the plate.  Walks and balls put in play by Mudd, RZ Bowley, Maxwell Walther, and Guidotti netted the Angels a run.  The A's sent 12 players to bat.  It started with walks by Cooper Pimental, Prep call-up Rory Shanley, Will McLaren and Will Kelleher.  Then, singles by Salt, Coghlin, Yeaton and Michael Mendilian let to six runs crossing the plate.  The Angels lefty pitcher RZ Bowley pitched hard to stop the A's attack.  A's 13 - Angels 1.

4th Inning: The Angels did not give up.  They were determined to score some runs.  The A's brought in lefty Shawn Salt.  They had walks by Ishkanian. Mudd and Bowley and then a nice double down the right field line by Walther.  The hit by Walther knocked in 2 runs.  Salt settled down and got some nice defensive plays behind him to end the game.

It was a well played game by both teams.  Good luck the rest of the way.
