Finally a fantastic sunny spring Saturday for a baseball game! The Shrewsbury Red Sox taking a road trip out to face the Sturbridge Cubs at Burgess Field.

The Red Sox just dying to finally play a game were ready from the start. Zak Salovardos lead the game off with a walk followed by a George Kosheff single. Jack Wharton cleared the bases with a 3 run HR to right. Ian Taylor not to be out done hit a HR to left center. It didn’t stop there as Andrew Blanchette and the Coran brothers, Cam and Dylan, would all single. Jackson Chamberlain with the sacrifice would drive in Andrew to end the top of the first with 5 runs for the Sox.

End of 1 inn 5-0

Sox Hits by Jack and Andrew would generate another run in the 3rd

End of 3 inn 6-0 Sox

The first four inn’s would belong to Krew Duprey though who pitched a stellar no-hit shutout game behind some fantastic defense including a great fly ball catch in the outfield by Zak and a great play at shortstop by George!

A second hit in the game by Dylan Coran would generate another run for the sox in the 4th.

End of 4inn 7-0 Sox.

In the top of the 5th Jack was at it again smashing his 2nd HR of the game this time a 2-run shot. The Sox would get another run on a hit by Krew and walks to Ian Taylor and Jackson and Ben Chamberlain.

In the bottom half the Cubs were not ready to give up and they started a rally of their own plating three runs. With the Sox desperate for pitching help, with games in back to back days, Andrew Blanchette stepped up to the task getting 2K’s and a ground out to get the Sox out of the jam.

End of 5inn 10-3 Sox

In the 6th inn the Sox would tack on an insurance run. Zak got it started with a single. Jack Wharton was at it again this time smashing a triple to drive in Zak.

In the bottom half the Sturbridge Cubs kept the rally going with some nice hits. Andrew battled for 2 more outs before giving way to Ian Taylor with the meat of the Cubs order coming up. Ian made quick work of the first batter he saw with a K to end the game.

Great game all around! It was so nice to welcome Sturbridge into our league and have this beautiful road game for the kids!
