This Friday evening, the Marlins hosted the A's for their first and only meeting of the season.  Alex D’Antilio took the mound for his first start of the season for the Marlins.  Alex started off strong, surrendering only one hit, a double by Colby Couglin and two runs scored in the first inning.  Colby Couglin was the starting pitcher for the A's, and he only gave up one run in the first.
2nd Inning
During the second inning, the A's plated five more runs, making the score, 7-1.  Andrew Schmidt drove in three of the runs, with a long double to right center field.  Colby pitched a scoreless second. 3rd Inning
Raunet Patel took charge of the mound and kept the A's scoreless, while striking out two batters in the third inning.  The bats started getting hot for the Marlins in the bottom of the third, with big hits from Gavin Flynn, who led off with a double to right center field. Dushyant Singh followed up with a single, and George Sakhat hit a solid double to left field to drive in three runs.  Alex D’Antilio started the rally again with a single and Kieren Ghidella doubled to right.  Gavin Flynn cleared the bases with a long drive double to center field.  The score after three innings was Marlins 9, As 7.
4th Inning
Gavin Flynn took the hill in the fourth striking out two batters.  Michael Hagopian, on the mound for the A's, also struck out two batters in the bottom half of the inning.
 5th Inning
It looked as though the A's were on their way to another big inning after a lead- off single by Andrew Schmidt.  While attempting to steal second, catcher Kieren Ghidella fired the ball to second to catch the runner stealing.  Michael Hagopian hit a long double to right field only to be stranded at third base when the Marlins executed a 6-4-3 double play.  The Marlins scored two insurance runs in the 5th, after Kieren Ghidella and another Marlin reached base to be driven home by Dushyant’s double.
 6th Inning
The Marlins closed out the sixth, keeping the Athletics scoreless.  The final score was 11-7.
The game was highlighted by a fantastic start by the Athletics.  The Marlins showed a lot of character as they came back from a large deficit.  It was great to see some outstanding plays in the field and great hits by both teams.  Great job to Kieren Ghidella in his first appearance as a catcher and also, Shawn Salt, the catcher for the Athletics who took charge for the entire game.
