It was a beautiful Mother’s Day eve Saturday night game at Dean Park for a divisional rematch between the home Grizzlies and visiting Aces.

“Just Josh” Curtis served as opener for the Grizzlies and was immediately greeted by a single and steal by Charlie King. Charlie smashed a triple last time these teams met and he was not about to let up now. After a nice 1-3 putout Nate Duerden singled in Charlie for the first run of the game. Josh settled in from there to K the next two batters and leave Nate stranded at second base. Rookie Mason Doyle was on the bump and after retiring the leadoff batter Tyler “Lighting” Bolt then doubled sharply taking third on a stolen base. Tyler later scored on an RBI groundout to shortstop by Josh to tie the game. 1-1 all tied after 1.

Josh was relieved by Tyler Bolt in the second and the Aces threatened for more loading the bases with one out. Tyler found his groove though and registered back to back K’s to end the threat without any damage. The Grizzlies rallied in the home half the second with the big hit off the bat of Tyler Jordan as he laced a 2-RBI double to the right center gap scoring Jesse Dullea and “Hollywood” Aloisi. 3-1 Grizzlies after 2.

The “Riders of Rohan” relieved Tyler in the third and the Aces patiently worked the veteran pitcher as Anthony Tizzano drew a bases loaded walk to score Nate Duerden. Rohan held strong and made a nice play on a comebacker to record the final out of the inning. Daniel Galarza started the third inning Grizzly rally with a walk and steal. Cam “Iceman” Randazza singled home Daniel setting the stage for Tyler “Lighting” Bolt’s line shot home run to push 2 more runs across for the Grizzlies. Patrick Babola singled but then Anthony Tizzano relieved Mason and struck out the next three batters to end the threat. 6-2 Grizzlies after 3.

Benjie Rotunno relieved Rohan and the Aces first two batters reached base and later came around to score on a 2-out RBI single by Nate Duerden. With the bases loaded the Grizzlies called upon Ace Patrick “El Grande” Babola to preserve the lead and he delivered with a strike out to end the inning. The Grizzles tried to add insurance with “Hollywood” Aloisi drawing a walk and “Coop” Lindsey’s sharp single but Anthony Tizzano continued to dazzle delivering a K, put out and assist in the bottom of the 4th holding the Grizzlies scoreless. 6-4 Grizzles after 4.

“El Grande” Babola continued in the 5th looking to close out the game. The Aces would mount a serious threat loading the bases but fortunately for the home team “El Grande” added three more K’s to his total to notch the save and end the game at Grizzlies 6 – Aces 4.

Best of luck to both teams the rest of the way!
